Isola di Solitudine

A
bright
sunny day
A storm took a roll
left to right
right to left
round and round

and down we went
Fire and water married
Flames of sparkles celebrated
I thought I was dead, but I am still alive
There is only dead silence as the people
float on the water downwards as if they
no longer need air and movement for survival
Dragging chain legs across the shores and there is only nature and me
I wonder if this is the end of me…I wonder if this is the entrance to Heaven
Walking in the forest and ignoring the dangers ahead
An endless and hopeless path
Will a miracle appear I wonder?
Oh I think I saw it! A bright light just ahead of me.
Running past the thorns as they ripped apart my skin gently
But I don’t care…I just want to get out of this unknown island
Stepped in the path of light and I can only see the cruel warmth from the sun
And I realized I am all alone in the
Isola di Solitudine
which gifted
me its
wonderful
treasure
the
loneliness
of
death

First of all this have nothing to do with the redwood, so I think I went a bit wild and out of the theme but when it comes to sole survivorship, I suddenly thought of the time when I first took a plane back from Korea to Singapore…hmm did you guys remember the poem I written not long ago titled “The Last Song” | “Song of Heaven”? I was have this feelings that the plane will crash and imaginations went wild once again, imagining myself ended up in an island…everyone was dead and I was all alone all these kind of things…And what I wanted to say is that loneliness can kill a person slowly…It is even worse than to be the last man standing…life without anybody by your side to share your joy and sadness, that is not a life that you ever wanted. :) Not even me, myself (P.S. I was trying to make a plane shape in the beginning, but ended up it became the unknown island map instead…)

  6. Excellent imagery here, Riika! Sometimes, like you said, our imagination can go wild… maybe we should let it, and quickly put it on paper! :)
Loved this poem… that light of hope towards the end made the picture complete!! AWESOME! Maybe your plane was about to land then… huh? :)

  7. You are the last poet standing, LOL. I was wondering as I read whether you knew what a redwood was — giant trees! And then I read your note after your poem. Scary flight from Korea to Singapore! Beautifully written!

    • XD Ah actually I was stuck at that point :X But I know it have something to do with nature and Mother Earth :3 and then I saw sole survivorship, it somehow reminds me of the first flight back and there my imagination gone wild again XD

  13. Nice. The isolation is hard, but if you are surrounded by people and you feel alone… that`s worst. Fortunately i have music, books and games. Congrats again. (*_*)

    • haha, I have my laptop and internet too=3~ It doesn’t really matter even if I am surrounded by people and yet I feel alone, somehow it kind of affect me but well, when I am in front of my laptop, I am much happy and contented :)

  14. How on earth did you manage to get that fantastic layout to work? and the colour? I’d used colour in mine, but couldn’t find a way to copy it into the blog. Your poem is a fascinating insight into the tree.

    • Oh everything is done inside WordPress :D , center it and mess around with the words to form the shape (Switching between visual for view and HTML tab to do up the words), for the colors, i changed the tab to Visual Mode and started highlighting the words and place the color on them :) You can only copy alignment into WP but not the color itself even if you use the visual mode. Hope this will helps you a little ;D

  15. Powerful. the form is stirring – I have never seen it before, either. Thank you so much for sharing.

  16. That was quite a journey of words. Excellent – and i loved the shaping of the tree.
